I thought I'd provide you with resources so you may research for yourself some of those who are informing my thoughts here. These are amazing provocative pieces. I am providing multimedia links in the hopes that these "teasers" will encourage you to join me in resuming literary habits. It's great, in this day and age, that there are so many means to appeal to multi-sensory input. If you simply cannot make time to read, at least there are audio/visual options to engage in learning and spiritual formation. But, in my opinion, we ought to maintain the discipline of reading good books and engaging in critical discussion of ideas.
I have been reading some really different kinds of books by people who are asking questions about the best way to follow Jesus in today's culture. Check out the links below:

With a nod to S.Feldhahn, use of the term "radical" is based on the conviction that transformational faith is counter-cultural. The intersection between faith in Jesus and sexuality as well as cultural forces that undermine freedom and power are examined. Vibrancy, vitality, deep meaning and exuberance are found both in authentic faith and connected sexuality. Here we grapple with the paradox that we need simultaneously safety/security and novelty/adventure in both faith and sex.
Thank you for your encouragement! I am looking forward to being accountable to someone in reading this book. I've found that life, with two kids and work, just crowds my reading time. Reading the Bible is always my first priority and I've committed myself daily for 30 days - been doing good so far though it requires a lot of discipline... then I've got a few books on the side that I *try* to read when I get a chance but I have yet to finish one. I love to read and, for me, novels are easier because they pull me in and I get hooked... I'm finding that books like "The Power of a Praying Wife" - while a good read (and what I need in this stage of my life)- is just not as easy to be committed to on a daily basis when life is running a muck! Hoping this might bring some change to that for me. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, life does crowd out reading time. Besides this one, I need to find the next one to capture my interest. You might enjoy reading The Lights Of Tenth Street since it is the novel that sparked this book. Hopefully, life doesn't crowd out our marriages? I'm looking forward to this too and want to make sure that it is the encouragement to our guys that it is intended to be. Maybe we'll take it slow and meet once a month to give us time to appreciate our guys. Softball season and all. . .
